Signs You Need Electrical Panel Maintenance

If you have an older home and meet one or more of the following criteria, you might need to upgrade your electrical panel:

  • You invested in new major appliances like a refrigerator, hot tub, or HVAC system that require a 240V circuit.
  • You added on a new room or floor.
  • You use a lot of electrical devices at once or have a sophisticated home entertainment system.

Upgrading a 100-amp panel to 200 amps can prevent recurring power surges and could even lower your homeowners insurance due to the increased safety factor. Learn the benefits of upgrading your electrical panel in Frederick, MD.

What Size Electrical Panel Do You Need?

Modern standard circuit breaker panels have a 200-amp capacity. That means they have more circuits, a significant advantage in modern homes. Keep in mind a larger panel doesn’t use more electricity, it just lets you add enough circuits and electrical capacity so your home’s electricity needs can be met today and in the future. Cramming too many electrical-dependent devices onto a small number of circuits increases the chances of overloading them.

Signs your electrical panel may need an upgrade include:

  • Crackling sounds from the panel
  • Frequent circuit breaker “trips”
  • It still uses fuses
  • Rust and corrosion on circuit breakers
  • Appliances not running at full power

A sure sign you probably should electrical panel maintenance is if you use a lot of extension cords and power strips throughout your house. Learn additional signs your Electrical Panel needs an Upgrade or replacement.

Why Choose Wenbrooke Services

Unsure whether your Frederick, MD home’s electrical panel needs an upgrade? The best way to find out is to talk to a qualified, licensed residential electrician who can help you determine the amount of power your home needs. Generally, if your electrical panel is more than 10 years old, it might not be able to adequately power your home’s appliances, HVAC system, TVs and monitors, lighting system, computers, and other equipment. Even energy-efficient appliances and devices need a lot of electricity to operate!

If you’re not trained to work with electrical wiring, upgrading an electrical panel by yourself can be extremely dangerous. In short, it’s much better to leave the job to a trained professional who’s not only skilled in performing the work but also knows the latest local regulations and codes. Wenbrooke Services is FAST! From a call placed last Tuesday, to a visit and quotes provided on Wednesday, deposit provided on Monday, to a rip and replace of the furnace and AC the next day. Everyone at Wenbrooke was a joy to work with and the install team of Thomas and Andrew were top-notch. They left the worksite clean and walked me through every part of the new system.
Jeff is the man! He has serviced the furnace and air conditioner in the past as part of our service contract. Jeff is honest and is straight up, never pushy. He tells you what the unit needs and how to improve your system. He tells you whether something is worth it it and what isn’t. I look forward to working with Jeff in the future.

Techs were thorough & and efficient.
Wenbrooke was very friendly and professional installing our water heater, HVAC, and repairing our outdoor lighting. We use them for our church so I already knew about their great work. They get right to work and discuss anything outside the scope of their work that they find. They are not pushy and are willing to work with you. If you don’t already have a HVAC, electrical, or plumbing company, I highly suggest Wenbrooke. You won’t be disappointed.

Since moving into my "new" home, I have needed Wenbrooke for quite a few things the previous owners thought they were competent to do themselves. Might seem silly but I have seen the same two gentlemen each time. I have grown to really like these guys. Not only are they friendly and very likable but they know what they are doing. I know them by name now (that is how many times they have been out to correct issues). I'm sure I could shop around and find different pricing but at this point I see no need. They don't try to over or upsell me. They feel trustworthy. They are very responsive. I like that they are multifaceted with all the system needs of my home (elec, AC, plumbing). I will continue to use them as long as I live in this house.
